Overview
Wadi Rum is a protected desert landscape of sandstone and granite formations rising out of wide plains of red sand. Access into the desert is managed through licensed local operators, mostly Bedouin-run, who provide jeep tours, hiking guidance, and overnight camp stays — this is not a place suited to unguided self-drive exploration.
Most visits are organized as a half-day, full-day, or overnight desert experience, often combined with Petra or Aqaba on the same trip. Camp accommodation ranges from traditional Bedouin tents to more comfortable desert camps.

- A half-day or full-day tour suits visitors passing through; an overnight camp stay allows time for sunset, dinner, and stargazing without a return drive after dark.

- Summer daytime heat in the open desert can be intense, while nights can turn notably cool even after a hot day; winter nights can be cold, so warm layers are useful year-round after sunset.

- Jeep tours are generally manageable for families, while longer hikes and rock climbing routes suit older children and adults comfortable with more demanding terrain.
- Accessibility
